The inaugural edition of the World Kolokun Goat Chasing Competition made a historic debut on May 2, 2026, at the Ondo State Sports Stadium, drawing thousands of spectators as part of the annual Asun Carnival celebration in Ondo State.

The unique sporting and cultural event, founded by renowned tourism promoter and convener of the Asun Carnival, Olawanle Akinboboye, was created to engage and empower young people while promoting entertainment, cultural heritage, and community participation.

Speaking during a world press conference held ahead of the competition at the Ondo State Sports Stadium, Akinboboye explained that the idea behind Kolokun was inspired by the cultural and economic significance of goats within the Ondo community.

According to him, goats are not only valuable for consumption but can also serve as a source of entertainment and youth engagement. He noted that the Kolokun competition is deeply connected to the annual Asun Carnival because Asun — the famous spicy smoked goat meat delicacy — traces its origin to the Ondo people of Southwest Nigeria.

The event attracted an estimated crowd of over 40,000 spectators, who gathered to witness the energetic and entertaining competition. Contestants lined up at one end of the pitch while goats were released several metres ahead, triggering an intense chase that thrilled spectators throughout the stadium.

The competition featured male and female categories, with participants racing after agile goats that dodged and maneuvered across the field amid loud cheers from the audience.

At the end of the contest, winners emerged in both categories. Akinnifesi Temidayo won the Male Category, while Precious Ngozi emerged victorious in the Female Category. Winners received goats valued at approximately N150,000 each as prizes. The children’s category was later nullified.

Akinboboye described the reward as both symbolic and economically beneficial, particularly for young participants who could leverage the prize for education, business, or personal development.

He further revealed plans to expand the competition in subsequent editions, noting that the number of goats used during the event would increase from ten to twenty next year. He also projected that attendance could exceed 100,000 spectators during future editions of the Asun Carnival and Kolokun competition.

According to him, the initiative is expected to stimulate commercial interest in goat rearing, create opportunities for food vendors and local businesses, and boost hospitality and tourism activities across Ondo State.

Akinboboye compared the vision for Kolokun to Spain’s globally recognized “Running of the Bulls” festival, expressing confidence that the Ondo-based competition would soon become an internationally celebrated cultural and sporting attraction.

“The Kolokun goat chasing competition in Ondo will certainly grow into a globally recognized event,” he stated.

The Asun Carnival continues to position Ondo State as a growing hub for cultural tourism, entertainment, and youth-driven initiatives in Nigeria.

AdvoKC Foundation has berated the Senate’s passage of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2026, describing the act as a profound disappointment and a clear betrayal of public trust.

AdvoKC Foundation, in a statement made available to journalists on Thursday by Luqman Adamu, its Communications Manager, lamented that at “the very moment Nigerians expected forward-looking reform, the Godswill Akpabio-led Senate chose to turn back the clock, prioritising convenience over credibility and politics over people.”

The Foundation lamented that “instead of fixing the failures laid bare by the 2023 general elections, the Senate has recycled and reinforced the same weaknesses that damaged confidence in our democracy., adding: “This amendment does not move Nigeria forward. It drags the electoral process backwards and shields it from scrutiny.”

Lamenting that public trust in elections is already fragile, the statement added: “Nigerians have been clear about what they want: transparency, certainty, and accountability. Rather than respond to this demand, the Senate has opted for regression. This bill delivers none of what citizens asked for and takes the country further away from credible elections.”

The statement noted that “By rejecting mandatory electronic transmission of results, the Senate has returned transparency to discretion,” adding that “This is the same discretion that produced the so-called ‘technical glitches’ and fuelled disputes and manipulations after the 2023 elections. When transparency is optional, fraud remains possible. A reform that walks away from certainty is not reform at all. It is a step backwards.”

According to the statement: “ The reduction of the Notice of Election period from 360 days to 180 days further undermines preparedness. It reintroduces the conditions for rushed timelines, logistical failures, late materials, and voter disenfranchisement. Nigerians have lived through this chaos before. Choosing it again is deliberate regression.“

Even more troubling is the Senate’s decision to weaken penalties for vote-buying. A ₦5 million fine in an electoral system awash with billions of Naira is more of a fee than a deterrent. By lowering the cost of electoral malpractice, the 10th Senate has normalised it and placed democracy on sale.

“The removal of Clause 142, which would have simplified how evidence is presented in election petitions, makes it harder for citizens to challenge non-compliance. It preserves an outdated system where justice is delayed by technicalities and endless oral testimony instead of being decided by clear documentary proof. This move strengthens impunity and weakens accountability.”

Saying that the Senate had enough time to deliver meaningful, future-oriented reform ahead of the 2027 elections, AdvoKC Foundation lamented that “What it produced instead is a last-minute bill that offers no new protection to voters and no real assurance of credible elections. This is not progress. It is regression disguised as an amendment.”

The Foundation called on the Conference Committee members to reject this version during harmonisation, adding that “Nigeria does not need cosmetic changes that take us backwards. It needs real reform that protects votes, enforces accountability, and restores trust in the electoral process.”

“To Nigerians, this vote matters. Your representatives in the Senate have chosen to keep the system vulnerable, discretionary, and easy to manipulate. If this bill is allowed to stand, the credibility of the 2027 elections will be compromised before a single ballot is cast. “Enough of the pretence. Nigeria cannot afford to move backwards. Pass an Electoral Act that serves the people, or stop wasting public funds on legislation that changes nothing.”

H.E Governor Agbu Kefas (Right) Founder,  La Campagne Tropicana Agro Ecotourism Heritage Resort (Middle) and Hon. Commissioner, Taraba State Ministry of Heritage and Ecotourism, Rev. Joseph Titus Nagombe

By Paul Ukpabio

The allure of Taraba State, is so overwhelming that a visit becomes a temptation to explore, discover and unravel more. Actually, the nature-rich state, is a hidden treasure that has long been concealed from most Nigerians and the world at large. That’s because, a simple journey around Taraba state leaves an outstanding impression on a tourist’s mind, about this nature’s paradise. And then suddenly, one realizes that it is totally a disservice and half truth to say that Taraba state is the home of nature. Ofcouse, the state is certainly more than that! Rather, it is better to describe Taraba state, as an endowment of a blessed land that drips in the honeycomb of ecotourism potential and an overwhelming natural resources that makes one wonder where the original Garden of Eden was located!

A land rich with rivers that run from one end of the state to another, criss-crossing the rich vegetation that characterizes every part of the sixteen local government areas of the state. Taraba state is a beauty that mesmerizes the beholder, seduces the traveller, beckoning on him or her to stop, settle down and enjoy.

From the lush greenery that greets a visitor coming in through the bordering villages of Nasarawa state by the Donga River, Taraba state is a land of much amazement. Like a mysterious story with much revelation, with each part of the state having a story that unfolds a new ‘nature’ story.

Take for instance the Mambilla Plateau, a place with weather that can be likened to that of Europe. If you thought such can only be seen at Obudu cattle ranch, or Jos, then you got it wrong. Here, people are drawn to the Mambilla Plateau for its cool climate, which offers a refreshing break from Nigeria’s hot, tropical weather, and more.

Gashaka Gumti National Park is another tourist haven to behold. Along with Kashimbilla games reserve. Nature smiles at every corner, that a tourist turns to, in Taraba State with its hills, waterfall, wildlife and also more to see.

You will definitely love Gembu, a town that sits in the southeastern part of Taraba State, ideal location one would say, for nature lovers, great cool weather like Jos too.

I guess it became so natural for the incumbent Executive Governor of Taraba State, Governor Agbu Kefas, on assumption of office, to take advantage of the natural endowment of Taraba State, by extending its development frontiers through its rich eco-tourism, heritage, among other sectors.

Governor Agbu Kefas recognised just too well that the strength of Taraba people is in their agricultural prowess! In case you don’t know it, Taraba State is more or less, a huge farmland, rich in agricultural produce and mineral resources! And the people are celebrated farmers! Every available land is cultivated. No wonder food is in relative abundance in the state, with festivals that celebrates the fishing and agricultural prowess of the state.

Governor Agbu Kefas’ love for eco-tourism and heritage, hit the right cord with Tourism Icon, Otunba Olawanle Akinboboye, Founder of LA CAMPAGNE AGRO ECOTOURISM HERITAGE RESORT BRAND, using agriculture to Promote Tourism and Tourism to promote agriculture, which led the government into the establishment of 5 strategic agro ecotourism, heritage resort development locations in the state. Among these are Ibi, Nwonyo lake, Zongo Kombi where work kick-started a month and a half weeks ago on the 100 Hectares land space, with road construction and large scale farming. This particular land space is different from the other hectares of land allocated in each of the other identified zones.

And this indeed is a welcome move because it will enhance an unprecedented high number of traffic into the state, enhancing the availability of what another tourism writer, has ably described as, the ‘tourism dollar’ into the state.

Otunba Olawanle Akinboboye, a known technocrat when it comes to security, entertainment and tourism, is leaving no stone unturned, as his organization has already commenced a massive employment of indigenes of the state, with training already in progress, to fast track the humongous project of developing 5 new tourism locations in the state.

And for tourists, the best part of Taraba State, is it’s capital city Jalingo, a miniature of what the entire state represents. Farmlands are everywhere in the city, domesticated and wrapped around the societal fabric of the city and people.

Jalingo is the home of politicians, businessmen and women, civil servants, and the states headquarters of trade and commerce.

Jalingo may not be in a huge hurry to wake in the mornings as Lagos does, with its over population, nonetheless, Jalingo, Taraba state capital, does not sleep early!

With an appreciable number of hotels namely: Star exclusive hotel, Grand shield hotel, Akhei luxury hotel, Fast track hotel, Blue Nile Suites and Taraba state stadium hotel, to mention but a few, Jalingo bubbles with ease. Comfortable accommodation with room rates which ranges from 10,000 naira to the more luxurious hotels that charges as much as 250.000 naira, per night, are available, The landscape view from most of the hotel rooms, comforts the pocket, as one explores the city’s alternative social spots such as recreational gardens, lounges, restaurants and drinking spots.

The city hub itself is the roadblock where all roads lead to places in jalingo. Socializing also extends to Taraba Museum, the civil service club and a place known as Hangout. But the celebrated new socio-cultural hangout and recreational place to be currently, obviously is now the new LA CAMPAGNE  TROPICANA AGRO ECOTOURISM HERITAGE RESORT, with its formidable Yor’ubar that merges the hip, the classic and the gen z. It is a cultural innovation in a city that trends several ethnic groups in a cosmopolitan setting.

La Campagne Tropicana Agro Ecotourism Heritage Resort, Nigeria’s First ever, blends everything that is unique to the average Citizen of Taraba state, together with visitors to the state, accommodating the social taste of all, while at the same time promoting wealth creation among the youths, the middle aged and retirees. Here, the rich traditional cuisines of Taraba state, namely, Tuwo Shinkafa, Tuwo Masara, pounded yam, miyan kuka, fisherman Soup, and continental dishes, are cooked and served as you watch, while being entertained with African drums, indigenous, history-laced songs and dances.

It is about the only social place that blends and celebrates the different ethnic cultures of the people through showcasing of their traditional colourful attires at its Yor’ubar. If you are from any of these ethnic groups, Vute, Fulani, Hausa and Ndola, Mumuyes, Mambila, Karimjo, Wurkums, Jenjo,Kuteb, Chamba, Yandang,  Jukun, Ichen, Tiv, Kaka, Pena, Kambu, Kodei, Wawa, you immediately identify with the Yor’ubar once you get there!

LA CAMPAGNE TROPICANA AGRO ECOTOURISM HERITAGE RESORT, the latest attraction in Jalingo, was thrown into the city’s limelight as the First ever in the country, just about a week and half ago, when the Executive Governor of the state, Governor Agbu Kefas, visited with some of his Commissioners and business community to access the progress of the project.

The beauty of it all is that, Governor Agbu Kefas is fast unraveling Taraba State to Nigerians and the global community. However, seeing is believing. You can’t totally enjoy what you are not physically present to see, feel and touch. Therefore a visit to Taraba state is now a must!

With the vision of the incumbent Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, Taraba State, is hurriedly emerging as the first eco-tourism destination point in Nigeria that equally celebrates heritage.

The 5-YEAR programme presented by the Founder of IPADA Initiative and Motherland Beckons …Heed the call, Otunba Olawanle Akinboboye was an eye opener to the long term benefits that Africans in Diaspora and lovers of Africa who plan to attend the annual IPADA Celebrations in Lagos, Nigeria, will get. ... Catalysing Over 2.5 Million Jobs Across Nigeria’s Creative Sector

In a bold and visionary step toward economic diversification and inclusive prosperity, the Honourable Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy is proud to announce the successful completion of Phase One of Nigeria’s first-ever Creative and Cultural Industries (CCI) Mapping. This groundbreaking data initiative identifies clear pathways to create over 2.5 million jobs within Nigeria’s vibrant and fast-evolving creative economy.

This mapping exercise marks a historic milestone. For the first time, Nigeria has a comprehensive, evidence-based understanding of its creative sector. It highlights where value is most concentrated, which areas hold the greatest promise for growth, and how collaborative investments can deliver sustainable impact across the country.

“This is not just data; it is a new compass for unlocking prosperity,” said Faiz Imam, Chief Advisor to the Honourable Minister. “It signals a turning point in how we design, coordinate, and scale interventions that impact real lives, real incomes, and real futures.”

Key Insights from the Mapping Include:
High-Impact Job Clusters: The mapping identifies sub-sectors that offer the most scalable job opportunities for youth and creators nationwide.
Catalytic Intervention Points: It also outlines priority areas where targeted investments and government support will have the greatest transformative effect.
The Need for Coordination: The data reveals that the creative economy’s success is deeply linked to how well infrastructure, skills development, innovation, content creation, financing, and distribution work together. Fragmented or isolated efforts are likely to fall short, which is why a collective approach is now more essential than ever.

Creative Economy Coordination Summit to Drive Unified Action

To move from insight to impact, the Federal Ministry will host a Creative Economy Coordination Summit in the coming weeks.

This summit will bring together public agencies, development finance institutions, international organisations, private sector leaders, and stakeholders across the creative value chain. Together, we will:
Share the key learnings and strategic recommendations from the mapping report
Align and strengthen ongoing initiatives to drive faster and more inclusive progress
Deepen partnerships across sectors by addressing the interlinked factors shaping success
Advance a national delivery framework that ensures every investment feeds into a broader vision of job creation and inclusive growth

A formal invitation with full event details will be shared soon.

Towards a Bold, Collaborative Future

This moment represents a new chapter not just for Nigeria’s creative industries but for our nation’s economic future. The Honourable Minister’s vision is anchored in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR’s Renewed Hope Agenda, positioning the creative economy as a pillar of national development, innovation, and global competitiveness.

The full Phase One CCI Mapping Report will be published and made accessible on the Ministry’s D30 platform following the summit. Phase Two is already in progress and will expand the mapping to include tourism and other vital sub-sectors within the creative economy.

A Call to Action

We are extending a heartfelt invitation to all partners and collaborators — from government and development partners to private investors and creators — to join us in shaping a vibrant, job-rich future for Nigeria.

Now is the time to move with intention and unity. Together, we can build a creative economy that is not only celebrated at home but respected and recognised around the world.

“Let us unite around a common goal — not just to celebrate Nigeria’s creative spirit, but to convert it into lasting, large-scale impact for generations to come.”
