Africa’s first female Bishop, Bola Odeleke, has cause
to rejoice. She was actually saved by the Grace of God at the break of the
coronavirus plague in China. However, it was not unusual for her to be abroad
during the outbreak of the disease.
Bishop Bola Odeleke, a known African missionary with
preaching Christian outlets abroad, had gone on her regular missionary work abroad, when just on the edge of the outbreak of the pandemic, she got a
ticket and headed home to Nigeria.
And no sooner, she safely returned into Nigeria, the
disease started spreading across the globe from China to other countries and the global lockdown
commenced with earnest.
“Even now,” she said, “I am supposed to be in the US. The ticket I bought was for May 5, 2020, because I usually buy my tickets
in January and February, but before we knew it, Covid-19 emerged. So here I am
in Lagos, I had to cancel all the meetings over there. The people over there
had spent money planning to receive me but God’s will, must be done.
“It’s a time to reflect. Maybe God wants everybody to
be quiet and review our lives. Of course we need money if we can look inward, we will have it. I
cannot blame the government. The part I like most about this Covid-19 is that
it is not only affecting the blacks but also whites as well as whatever colour
you may be. It has touched all the continents of the world. This is why it is a
pandemic.
“I pity the people in travel business for example; I
have been assured that I can still use the ticket I bought anytime I choose but
no plane is moving at the moment except for essential services.”
But while the Bishop was lucky not to be stranded abroad, her friend was not so lucky; her friend is still presently stranded in China.
“My friend actually finished all the scheduled meetings in china but was
just about getting out when the lockdown took effect over there. My friend is
still in China right now, bored and moved out of a hotel to live with other
guests, and is now missing home very much.”
